In The Return of Harmony Parts 1 and 2, they never really explained how Discord escaped. All we know is the Cutie Mark Crusaders were fighting, then Discord's statue started to crack. Lots of people say that since the CMCs (Cutie Mark Crusaders) were fighting, the discord they caused helped Discord escape. Other people say the CMCs were fighting because Discord was escaping, but that doesn't tell us how he escaped.

On an unrelated note, why did they turn Discord back into a statue? He escaped so they know the statue is defective. Why turn him back?

I think Discord escaped because Princess Celestia does a poor job taking care of Equestria. Discord should have been buried under a mountain of cement or sent to the moon so he could not harm anyone!
